The Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA) is a dedicated organization committed to sustainable waste management practices in Anambra State. Our mission is to promote a cleaner and healthier environment through efficient waste collection, recycling, and disposal initiatives. With a focus on community engagement and environmental stewardship, ASWAMA strives to make Anambra State a model of waste sustainability and cleanliness

Functions

(a) Collaborative Initiatives: ASWAMA works in partnership with other organizations and bodies that have legal authority to address waste management and related issues. This collaborative approach ensures that waste management efforts are coordinated and effective in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

(b) Private Sector Partnerships: ASWAMA actively engages with the private sector to enhance waste collection and disposal services. This may involve granting franchises or forming partnerships with private companies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of waste management operations. These collaborations are carried out in strict adherence to applicable regulations and guidelines, promoting innovation and resource optimization in waste management.

Our Functions

Ensuring Cleanliness

We enforce clean streets, remove, collect and dispose of domestic, commercial and any other form of solidincluding medical, marine waste, garden waste and building waste in accordance with the provisions set out in this Law.

Remove and Dispose Abandoned and Scrapped Vehivles.

To further our commitment to a clean and safe environment, ASWAMA is authorized to remove and properly dispose of abandoned and scrapped vehicles, contributing to the elimination of eyesores and potential environmental hazards in Anambra State.

Remove and dispose of animal carcass from the public places

As part of our commitment to public health and environmental cleanliness, ASWAMA is authorized to efficiently remove and safely dispose of animal carcasses from public places, ensuring the well-being and hygiene of our community.

Issue, Revenue and Revoke License of Private waste collectors

In accordance with our mandate to regulate waste management activities, ASWAMA is empowered to issue, renew, and revoke licenses of private waste collectors, promoting responsible waste collection and disposal practices within Anambra State.

Promote Research

promote research and development programs for improved waste management and   resource conservation techniques, effective institutional arrangement for waste reduction, reuse,      collection, treatment, separation and recovery.

Set Guidelines and Target

set guidelines and targets for waste avoidance and volume reduction through source reduction and waste minimization measures, including composting, recycling, re-use, recovery and green charcoal process.
